San Francisco Airport Guide to San Francisco Airport (SFO)

SFO Terminal 1

San Francisco Airport Terminal 1 will be under redevelopment until 2024. It is expected that by Fall 2018 the ongoing construction will closure some roadway and curbside areas, including walkways.

The following areas will be temporary closed: Departures level: curbside access between doors 1 and 5, Arrivals level: curbside between doors 1 and 9. Also the SFO shuttle bus stop.

San Francisco Airport Terminal 1 hosts boarding areas B (B20-39) and C (C40-48). The terminal hosts inbound and outbound domestic flights within the US.

In the past it was known as the South Terminal.

Interesting facts: San Francisco Board of Supervisors is studying to rename Terminal 1 after the LGBT supervisor Harvey Milk and also to install artwork memorializing him.

You can actually connect to the boarding area C in Terminal 1 by a connector located at the security checkpoint.

You can take the Air Train in the Skybridge located on both level 3 and Mezzanine level.

See here related information about the Air Train and further transport methods between terminals in SFO Airport.

San Francisco Terminal 1 consists of a couple of boarding areas:

  • Domestic B boarding area: Boarding B area hosts Gates 20-39. From this level is possible to connect to both the International Main Hall and to Boarding Area C.

Given the redevelopments which are being done in Terminal 1, there is a boarding area B with 24 gates, 6 of them for international arrivals leading to direct access to US Customs & Federal Inspection area.

Available services: Information counters, hotel boards.

  • Domestic C boarding area: Boarding C area hosts Gates 40-48. It is possible to connect to boarding areas B and D.

Note that the aim of the ongoing construction of the new T1 Center and the boarding area B is to offer a centralized checkpoint, a new baggage handling system, food, drink and retail concessions and further post-security connection walkways to access to International boarding areas A and G. Their completion is expected by Autumn 2018.
